Frogfish @ Gilimanuk
About Gilimanuk
Gilimanuk is pretty much a ferry town, where ferries are crossing the straits to Java. The town doesn't have much to offer when it comes to accommodation and restaurants, so your best pick for a base for diving Gilimanuk Bay would be Pemuteran.
Diving Gilimanuk Bay
Gilimanuk bay is 2 km wide and very shallow with a max depth of 10 meters. The bottom consists of fine volcanic sand and rubble and you won't find hardly any corals here, so it is essential that you control fin movement and buoyancy in order not to stir up the bottom and ruin the visibility. If you manage to keep the waters clear and look closely, frogfish, nudibranch, seahorses, yellow-margin moray eels, ghost pipefish and dragonets can be seen.
The water at Secret Bay is cooler than in the rest of Bali - around 25°C, so you should dress accordingly.
Gilimanuk Bay is not for everyone, but if you like to go muck-diving in Bali, Gilimanuk Bay is a good choice.
Popular dive sites in Gilimanuk Bay
The most common dive site is located close to where the ferries are docking in the harbor. Once you get in, start exploring all the natural and man-made hiding places in the harbor for rare creatures.
